History
At the end of World War II, Arthur Hendrick came home to Richmond from the Navy with electrical, mechanical and navigational skills. He wanted to learn how a complex business operates, so he went to work in the appliance section at Thalhimer’s department store. There, he learned drafting and design, he learned about kitchens, and he formed the relationships that would lead to the founding of his own kitchen company. But more important, he gained the understanding that would become the heart and soul of Custom Kitchens Inc.
“The customer is the most important thing,” he says. “Our primary goal is to respect our clients, and deliver everything we promise.”
For 50 years, the Hendrick family has honored the commitment made in 1957. His sons Richard and David started working for their father in high school, learning the business from the inside out, and they now run the company with the same dedication to quality work and client satisfaction that has made Custom Kitchens the clear choice for generations of Richmond families.
Like their father before them, the Hendricks employ all their own designers, carpenters, and installers. They hold to the highest and most up-to-date standards of design and quality. The equipment has become more sophisticated, the influences on design have become almost infinitely various, and the role of the kitchen and the bath in modern life has evolved, but the fundamentals remain the same.
“We listen, we do it right, and we do it on time,” say both generations of this family, “and that will never change.”
