The Challenge
As if moving to a new city was not strenuous enough, the new residents decided to tackle their kitchen remodel before they were fully moved in. Fully aware that the next few months would be action-packed, the homeowners were truly excited to renovate the kitchen space.
The Solution
Having spent time abroad for long periods of time, European design was the guiding factor of this remodel.
The molding, backsplash, and tops made this kitchen look packed and small.
The window was enlarged to provide more natural light and to give a better view of the back yard and the urban setting.
Although the previous kitchen had small island, the existing space was too small for a proper one and the homeowners liked the idea of a seating area within the kitchen. To include this concept as well as enlarging the space, the designer suggested the island to continue past the wall and into the hallway - the back provides room for a small stool. This design solution also provided more room within the kitchen space avoiding a crowded working area.
To take advantage of the ceiling height, the wall cabinets were customized so that the bottom area would be a storage room as well as a displaying space. The composition of the cabinet, wood tones, and frosted glass, make this an inviting area.
Every inch of the layout was designed with storage room in mind - the homeowners truly enjoy cooking and this was a must!
