The Challenge
Despite it’s large footprint, this kitchen was in need for some layout help. The angled wall hidden behind the corner ovens posed a unique challenge in the original layout, leading to a disjointed cooking zone, and a stretched work triangle. Working countertop space was limited, cut off by the ovens and the raised portion of the island, which also meant that landing zones for your groceries and hot pans were hard to come by. A staple in many 90’s and early 2000’s kitchens, the desk area had become a space that attracted clutter and was rarely used for it’s original purpose. Overall, this kitchen needed some slight tweaking a refreshing color palette to transform it into an entirely new space.
The Solution
Switching out the tall cabinet holding the double ovens for a statement hood and single oven/cooktop combo transformed the space. Now open and accessible, there’s more countertop space surrounding all of the components of the work triangle. A single level island created more space for seating, and by condensing the cooking zone to one area, the island is now a perfect uninterrupted space suited for entertaining, prep, meal times, truly anything.
What was once an area that was lacking in storage is now chock full of it. By reducing the amount of glass cabinetry, these homeowners were still able to show off their favorite decorative glassware, without the worry of maintain clean and clutter-free cabinets. The two tall storage pantries flanking the glass cabinet on their own almost double the amount of storage in this space. By taking the cabinets to the ceiling and reducing the moulding size above them, you also gain valuable storage in all of the regular wall cabinets as well.
Inspired by our showroom, a custom built shiplap panel encases the island and brings the perfect farmhouse accent to this traditional home. The homeowner already had the perfect white and blue accents for her kitchen, so the island was the icing on the cake and added a soothing pop to the whole space! A color palette refresh is a simple, guaranteed way to breathe life back into your space.
